The hospital, aged and community care sector is a labyrinth defined by regulations, clinical standards, professional hierarchy, politics and power, industrial relations and EBAs, and government policy and funding.

The path through this labyrinth can only be effectively navigated when guided by others who have gone before. That is what makes the C2M accredited trainers and mentors unique in the leadership development field. They have lived the life of the manager at every level of the system: unit, department, health services, aged care service and government.

Every one of us has a deep and practical understanding of the real issues facing managers from the Unit level to the top of these organisations. And we are still practicing in the field as clinicians, managers and consultants.

C2M Academy's Origin Story 

The C2M Academy was the brainchild of Dr Elise Sullivan (CEO and Founder).  Drawing on her own research and over 30 years of building and managing teams in clinical settings, government, and private enterprise Elise created the Clinician 2 Manager Academy over 10 years ago (formerly the Australian Academy of Clinical Leaders). 

Elise was driven to support nurse managers to empower their teams to perform at their best. Her research and experience as a nurse, industry consultant and government policy analyst, convinced her that nurse managers are central to the health and wellbeing of their organisations. 

Elise’s PhD research into advancing and empowering nurses underpins C2M Academy’s philosophy that empowered leaders, empower their people to provide the best possible care. She found that nurse managers’ ability to empower their people depended on how well they were supported to make the transition from being a clinician to becoming a manager. 

Elise made the transition into management many years ago and recalls the complete lack of support or training available to support her. She was thrown into ‘in-charge’ roles with no more credentials or experience than being the most senior clinician rostered. While Elise is the founder, she believes that C2M Academy is bigger than any individual in it – including herself.  Over the years Elise has been joined by other nursing leaders who have made their own transitions and significant contributions in the industry.  Our accredited C2M Trainers bring their own unique experience and deep management & leadership expertise. Industry lead and based on best practice

 

C2M Academy training is informed by industry and the evidence.  From the start, Elise has engaged with the health and aged care industry and acknowledged industry experts to design our training to meet industry needs.  There have been many others who have been consulted and interviewed by Elise over the years, sharing their wisdom and insights.  This has shaped the C2M Academy’s training and ensures it meets the needs of industry, and makes a practical difference to how clinicians manage.

We know that clinicians are very practical people and want practical training and tools to help them in their jobs right now.  That is what we provide.

We continue to refine our training based on feedback from our participants, evaluations and engagement with industry.  In response to Covid, we up-graded all of our training so that it can now be delivered completely online if that is preferred.
